This is the website of my research group at the Departamento de Zoologia of the Universidade de São Paulo. In our lab, the main research focus is Behavioural Ecology. We use a variety of model studies and approaches to investigate hypotheses about mechanisms and processes that lead to the diversity of behaviours we observe in nature. Given the training we have received and the learning we have accumulated, we strive to focus on theory and model-derived hypotheses that have a wide interest to researchers in the areas of sexual selection and parental investment. Our lab collaborates with several researchers from institutions all over the world. By engaging in exciting discussion that generates good questions and research designs, we focus on the process of carrying out well-planned research that will naturally lead to the publication of interesting findings. We currently employ a range of approaches, from observational fieldwork, to meta-analytical and phylogenetic comparative analyses to answer these questions.
In 2016, we finally had the epiphany to name our lab BECO, which stands for Behavioural Ecology of Cool Organisms. BECO in Portuguese stands for "alley", which fondly describes our physical location within the department.
